Stephen Witzig, PhD

Dr. Witzig is an Associate Professor of STEM Education at UMass Dartmouth. He earned his Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Missouri in 2012. Dr. Witzig’s teaching focuses on contemporary theories of learning in STEM education, helping students understand research frameworks and methodologies. His research interests include the development of teachers’ specialized knowledge for teaching science, socioscientific issues-based education, and informal science contexts.  Dr. Witzig is dedicated to bridging relationships between scientists, educators, and students to enhance science education.

Kathryn Kavanagh, PhD

Dr. Kavanagh is an Associate Professor of Biology at UMass Dartmouth. She holds a Ph.D. in Biology from James Cook University of North Queensland and an MA in Marine Science from the College of William and Mary. Dr. Kavanagh’s teaching covers comparative vertebrate anatomy, evolutionary developmental biology, and coral reef biology. Her research focuses on developmental bias and plasticity in evolution, vertebrate skeletal development, and the evolution of larval-brooding damselfishes. Dr. Kavanagh is passionate about exploring the intersections of development and evolution to understand biodiversity.
